Wife and I have plenty to do while self-quarantined. Pray for family and nation. Count our many blessings. Enjoy flowers in the front yard. Start seeds for garden. Read a book. Write another chapter in my next book. Phone the kids.

“A superbly written story of a precocious young boy’s adventure that will capture your heart.” MESA (AZ)—Brighton Publishing LLC is pleased to announce the print release of Long Gone: The sixth book in The Wolf Series. It is now available in eBook and print formats from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other leading book retailers nationwide. The print format is distributed by Ingram, the world’s largest wholesale book distributor, in addition to being available worldwide through the Espresso Book Machine Network. Synopsis: Doc Sibley pens yet another masterpiece, weaving a tapestry of adventure. He takes us from Negreet, Louisiana through Texas with his beloved wolf dog Ring, his filly Honey Gal and Valentine, his sweet mule. His family has fallen on hard times and our protagonist, Dub is determined to help them. He packs up what he needs and loads it on the always accommodating Valentine. Dub sets out on a quest to find the gold mine of a long-dead Anasazi Indian. On the way, he takes work on various ranches and has the money sent home. His ranch hand work brings a number of new friendships as well as many close calls in dangerous situations. The communication Dub has with Ring is heartwarming and throughout the book, Ring advises Dub and protects him. In addition to new friends from his ranch work, Dub has a longstanding friendship with the Governor of Texas. He saved the Governor’s daughter several years ago and the appreciation gives Dub easy access to him. He’s careful not to abuse this relationship but several encounters with edge-of-your-seat danger find Dub calling on the Governor for life-saving help. A.W. “Doc” Sibley was born and raised in the small town of Negreet, Louisiana. After serving in the U.S. Army he attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Loyola University in New Orleans where he obtained his Doctorate in Dental Surgery. Dr. Sibley spent his career working as a country dentist in rural Louisiana. When not at the dental office, he enjoyed spending his off hours in the pursuit of various activities included farming, raising horses, cattle, developing land, hunting, fishing, and traveling. After raising four children with his wife Margaret, he retired from dentistry and resides in Merryville, Louisiana and enjoys farming, traveling and writing. His first published work “A Wolf Called Ring” was released in 2014 and received much acclaim in the literary market. Dr. Sibley’s prolific writings have been hailed as a modern day Mark Twain. I had to tell the man the books are still out of print. That’s when I realized it was back in January 2017, I said I would see about revising and publishing the three volumes.
Good news -- revision has started.
A year since my last blog. My apologies. In the past year, I have celebrated yet another birthday while on a trip to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Margaret and I visited old friends and enjoyed the crisp mountain air! Hard to believe, but it has been five years since A Wolf Called Ring was published in October of 2014. Dub, Ring, and Honey Gal have traveled many miles since that first book through four more volumes. Dub is growing up and is a teenager in volume 6, which is currently in production with our publisher. We look forward to its publication and sharing it with our friends and family, God willing and the creek don't rise! (For you young-uns out there, ask an old timer what that means.)
Wow! What a wonderful 85th birthday! What with all the "Happy Birthday" wishes and the various pictures everyone shared on social media, it really made this old heart swell. Thank you to everyone and my wonderful wife for making it such a special day. We hope to be heading out soon to do research for another book and I'll be doing it knowing that there are folks that will enjoy the end result. This "old man" has spring in his step again!!
Sorry I haven't posted in a while but we've been really busy trying to keep our garden going in this HOT HOT summer! I'm sure any of you that have ever sweated over planting vegetables know how much work it is to keep them going with the lack of rain and extreme heat the way it's been so far this summer. It's a lot of work but boy, if you've ever had home-grown tomatoes and purple hull peas, you sure know it's worth it. There's nothing better than that with a little home-made cornbread to make it all worth while.
Margaret and I went to Negreet and saw the old Carter place which is one of the homes of my childhood (which I mention in my books). It's been remodeled and looks amazing. Looks like how I remember it from 70 years ago. Tried to go by the Courtney place but someone bought it and there is a gate across the road now. It was really a fun day with beautiful weather and a trip down Memory Lane.
As the authorities recently opened the flood gates on Toledo Bend Dam after some heavy rains, the Sabine River once again rose beyond it's banks as expected. Very few of my readers will remember the time before the dam's existence, but I know I sure do. Since I grew up in those hills, I can remember like it was yesterday how beautiful it was. It's just a different landscape now.
As I was taking my morning walk early this morning, you should have heard the catbirds singing! Between them and the many other species of birds singing, I officially declare that Spring is here in our little piece of the woods. It was an amazing display of God and nature and I was lucky enough to enjoy it! They say the early bird gets the worm, but in this case, the early walker gets the birds. HAHA
