Margaret and I went to Negreet and saw the old Carter place which is one of the homes of my childhood (which I mention in my books). It's been remodeled and looks amazing. Looks like how I remember it from 70 years ago. Tried to go by the Courtney place but someone bought it and there is a gate across the road now. It was really a fun day with beautiful weather and a trip down Memory Lane.

As the authorities recently opened the flood gates on Toledo Bend Dam after some heavy rains, the Sabine River once again rose beyond it's banks as expected. Very few of my readers will remember the time before the dam's existence, but I know I sure do. Since I grew up in those hills, I can remember like it was yesterday how beautiful it was. It's just a different landscape now.
